World Hunger in Texas?! Why would Hunger exist in Texas? Well, hunger exists all around the world. In Texas, since it is a big state, there is many people who do not know if they will get another meal. In 2011, there were about five million people that suffered from food insecurity. Out of the 25,660,000 people living in Texas that year, nearly one-fifth of them suffered from hunger. 1/5 people is way too high of a number.
Imagine going to school every day, making some friends, then one day learning they do not know where there next meal is coming from. Luckily, in public schools some kids get free or reduced pay lunch, but what about in the summer. Wouldn't you be worried about your friend at least for the summer? After all, only eleven percent of the people who qualify for free or reduced pay lunches during the school year participate in the Summer meals program.
